Jason Witten Jersey announces retirement after 15 seasons with Cowboys

It took Jason Witten more than 15 minutes to reach the podium.

Witten, who announced his retirement at a press conference Thursday, entered Dallas’ facility with his family and was immediately Joe Thornton Womens Jersey met by a group of Cowboys coaches and players.

Witten exchanged handshakes and greetings with the large group, which included star running back Ezekiel Elliott and quarterback Dak Prescott, as he walked down a hallway toward the stage, causing a 30-minute delay before he opened the press conference.

After much self-reflection, prayer and faith, today I have decided the time has come for me to pass the torch and retire,Witten said.

Jones praised Witten for the character and commitment he demonstrated throughout his career.

Of all the people I have met from being in the NFL, Jason Witten is in the top five as a man,Jones said.

Current Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said that Witten has set an example for all past, current and future Dallas players. Garrett coached Witten the last eight seasons.

(Witten is) simply the best example of what you want a football player and person to be, on and off the field,Garrett said. Witten is the standard as a football player and a person鈥?until the end of time.

During his 29-year SI career, King became the country’s leading NFL writer. Both NBC and ESPN tried to hire King in 2012, but he reworked his deal with SI to gain more autonomy, launching The MMQB microsite in 2013.

With SI now under different ownership, things have changed. King is poised to leave the publisher with which he became a household name. He wrote a long statement explaining his decision on SI.com:
